Northfield is located in Merrimack County, New Hampshire.  It is situated 35 miles from Manchester, 85 miles from Boston, and 99 miles from Portland.

Northfield was originally part of the town of Canterbury, and was incorporated as Northfield in 1780.  It was one of the first towns created after the Revolution.  Northfield is home to the 50’ high Tilton Arch, a replica of a Roman Arch built by Charles E. Tilton in the 1800’s.

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Northfield was home to 4,548 residents.  This included 17,06 households and 1,211 families.  The average family size was 3.03 and the average household size was 2.63.  Northfield is comprised of 28.8 square miles of land and 0.3 square miles of water.
